November Themes

Wed., Nov. 2   Send a saint costume to school with your child (in a labeled bag – we'll put them on later in the day). We will have an All Saints' Day celebration (parade at 2:20 pm on the plaza)! (Ideas for easy saint costumes: a robe, an old sheet with a hole cut in it, a pillow case with holes for the head and arms, an old towel – don't buy anything, just be creative!) Don't forget to send the card with your child's saint and sentence describing that saint.

Thurs., Nov. 3   In Math we will play a matching game using pictures of things that come in pairs. Afterwards we will have a pairs scavenger hunt. To continue with our Noah's Ark theme, we will make our own boats and see if they float. (needed: styrofoam, milk cartons and foil – thanks)

Mon., Nov. 7   Letter of the Week: F Letter of the Week Box: Garrett Rand. Today is National Hug a Bear Day! Bring your favorite bear to school today and receive a certificate! We will begin our Thanksgiving Unit (and talk about Veterans' Day) today. A Dallas police officer is coming today at 10:00 am! ! 4-yr olds: please bring an old white or light colored pillowcase that we will dye in tea – just like the Native Americans did!

Wed., Nov. 9   During our Thanksgiving Unit we will be learning about the importance of corn to the people who lived during the time of the first Thanksgiving. Today we will have a “Corn Celebration” in which we will see, smell, touch and eat some different corn products (such as corn chips, popcorn, corn flakes, corn muffins, corn meal, etc. - please let me know of any allergies)!

Thurs., Nov. 10   Please bring in leaves today. We will sort and graph them. In science we will learn about mixing colors!

Mon., Nov. 14   Letter of the Week: G Letter of the Week Box: Connor Jacquart. Please bring in five pictures of things that your child is thankful for today. These can be photos of your family, or pictures cut out of magazines or newspapers such as food, clothes, etc., or even a photo of our MDO classroom or our church. Please encourage your child to not choose pictures of toys but of the things we should really be thankful for. Please send them in a baggie with your child's name on it. Thanks!

Wed., Nov. 16   We will make homemade bread and butter today – just like on the first Thanksgiving!

Thurs., Nov. 17   Last month we did not get to our Venn Diagrams so we will try again today, using the book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish , and then make a Thanksgiving graph. In science we will study popcorn.

Mon., Nov. 21   Today is our Thanksgiving Luncheon. This will not be a class party but just a meal that the class can enjoy together, and think of all the many things we are thankful for!

Wed., Nov. 23   No School – Happy Thanksgiving!

Thurs., Nov. 24   No School – Happy Thanksgiving!

Mon., Nov. 28   Letter of the Week: H Letter of the Week Box: Elizabeth Mocek . We will visit the St. Rita School library today at 10:30 am! This is the first week of Advent.

Wed., Nov. 30   November is Peanut Butter Lovers' Month. We will make edible peanut butter play- doh ! (Please let me know of any allergies!)

In Religion we will be learning the story of Noah's Ark. Happy Birthday this month to Ms. Sandra on Nov. 4 th , to Matthew Krause on Nov. 6 th and to Gregory Rand on Nov. 12 th ! Save the Date - please put Monday, December 5 th at 1:45pm on your calendar for our MDO Christmas Program in Sweeney Hall with a reception following in the classroom!

I will be cutting a large turkey body out of brown paper (pear shaped) I add a waddle and eyes. Then I will be sending home a construction paper feather with a note asking parents to help decorate the feather with their child any way you wish, and then return them to school by Nov 16th. They will all get displayed on the turkey that we will hang in the hallway outside our classroom. The kids love it and it's a great way for parents to spend quality time working along side their child!!

Nov. 21st We will have a Thanksgiving Feast. The sign-up sheet will be posted Nov. 16 th
