Importance of Copyright

Because you are a student, you are protected under a section of copyright law called Fair Use. Fair Use allows you to use small portions of an author's work without asking for permission from the author or publisher, as long as it is for academic (school use) and you give the author and publisher credit in your work.

Your bibliography or works cited page, and citations within your creations are important. You MUST give credit for any ideas that are not your own, whether you quote that person directly (i.e. anything that would be placed within quotation marks) or you paraphrase a thought or idea someone else has expressed.
