SPEECH & DRAMA
Speech & Drama is a diocesan-sponsored activity in which any 6th - 8th grade student may participate. It provides a fun, non-threatening environment for students to develop and get constructive feedback on their presentation and public speaking skills. It looks great on high school applications and helps build confidence for activities like class presentations and even their high school interviews.
Students may choose from 9 categories in which to prepare a selection and perform for judges at one (or both) of the 2 competitions that will be held this year. Those event categories are the following:
We have after-school practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays in my classroom (B206/Fr. Heaney Building) after carpool until 4:30 P.M. during the five weeks leading up to the meet.
After-school practices for the first October 12th meet will begin on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2019. Please plan to pick students up promptly at 4:30 by the north GYM doors. Student are also welcome to come see me during FLEX or recess for aid in finding a selection and for coaching.
After-school practices are NOT mandatory, but I would recommend attending at least four of them if possible. If you have other after-school conflicts on those days, we can set up a time before school or during recess for you to come show me your progress if you would still like to be involved but can't make practices or be in the elective.
The meets for the 2019-2020 school year will take place on the following dates (times are approximate):
Q1 - Saturday, October 12th @ JPII 8a - 12:00p... Fall Warm-Up Meet
Q2 - Saturday, December 7th @ JPII 8a - 3:00p ... Final Competitive Meet
If you would like more information about the meets in general, please contact Señora Schweitzer (firstname.lastname@example.org or x2146).
