Hello! I am Marlene Hewitt and blessed to be starting my second year of teaching Physical Education at St. Rita. I have been teaching and coaching for 20 years. Prior to teaching at St. Rita, I was lead P.E. teacher and coached all grade levels of Cross Country, Track, Volleyball and Tennis. I also lead Middle School Fellowship of Christian Athletes, School Socials, Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart, Marathon Kids and The Dawg Run fundraiser. An avid runner, I also started Run Club which allowed students to train during off season.
I attended Sam Houston St. University where I earned a B.A. in Teaching Physical Education and Business. My husband Onnie and I have been married for 34 years and have three children. We are expecting our first grandchild in August!
My love for fitness began when I was sixteen and got my first job at Nautilus Fitness in Garland Texas. I continued teaching exercise classes throughout college, and I am still teaching forty years later. I hold certifications in Personal Training, Yoga, Tabata, Group Fitness and Silver Sneakers.
For the past 18 years, I have lead camps during the Summer and Holidays for students of all ages. My camps specialize in specific needs and interests while promoting fitness, fun and a healthy lifestyle. When Summer Camps were cancelled this year, I provided At Home Camp and Summer Bike Camp which got kids outside to provide parents much needed alone and work time.
I do believe it is in difficult times we grow the most. As Summer Camps were canceled, Covid-19 provided the opportunity for us to be creative and explore new opportunities. My Summer Bike Camp allowed children to maintain social distancing while exercising and exploring endless trails in the Metroplex. This Summer will always hold a special place in my heart because it forced us all to adapt. I look forward to this School Year and finding unique ways to allow children to have fun in fitness.
