Welcome to the Counselor's Corner! I am the school counselor at St. Rita. This is my 18th year here at St. Rita and I love getting to know all the students and families. Both of my children went to school here, and I have such gratitude for being part of such a wonderful community. I am so excited to be back this year and look forward to lots of fun and learning.
Each month I will teach a lesson in each pre-kindergarten through second grade classroom in coordination with the homeroom teacher to introduce social emotional skills. We will be working on developing social thinking this year in guidance classes.
In 3rd and 4th grade classes I work with the students and teachers to help them better understand learning styles and ways to personalize their study habits for the most effective use of their time.
In middle school I will work with the students and teachers to support our commitment to virtues.
Along with Mrs. Lane, I sponsor the PeaceKeepers, or peer mediators. Each year we coordinate a Peace Week to bring awareness and attention to peace in our school and bring an end to bullying. In addition, the PeaceKeepers are coordinating our school wide commitment to virtues. We are excited to continue our pursuit of The Spartan Way, exhibiting the virtues of kindness, compassion, gentleness, humility and thankfulness both in school and in the world.
As we continue our program of Virtue Based Restorative Discipline school-wide, it is such an exciting time to be here at St. Rita. Our staff is working hard this year to reflecting on virtue and sharing that with our children. This year we are asking each student and staff member to designate a daily virtue for intention. Third through Eighth grade students will be using their planners to record their daily virtue. Ask your child what virtue they are working on today, and join us as you set a virtue intention for your own day.
First Fridays are our Parent Focus Circles each month. Immediately after all school mass, we meet in the coffee area of the Commons to discuss how families can support the Spartan Way at home.
The third Wednesday of each month join me online at noon for Spartan Way Wednesday, where I will share some information about our virtue practice and open up for dialogue through FaceBook Live.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child, please let me know.
