“TELL ME WHO DO YOU ADMIRE, AND I’LL TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE…”
Role models are a powerful force when it comes to shaping our ways of being -consciously or unconsciously. That role model -man or woman, young or old, famous or obscure- becomes part of our way of being, deeply shaping our decisions, habits, and in some cases, even setting the direction of our entire future.

In preparation for ALL SAINTS DAY, Thursday, November 1, we want to pause for a moment and help our St. Rita students learn more about their true heroes!

Why were the saints true heroes? They stood their ground based on holiness and virtue, sustained by their unshakable faith in God and in His Grace. Real heroes: some were weak, frail, and most of the time seemed hopelessly overwhelmed by tremendous odds. Yet, not only did they become famous, but also their names indeed defied empires, tyrants, persecutions, the passage of centuries and even millennia. They are whom we want our students to admire!

To celebrate these role models, we want the Pre-K through 4th grade students to learn more about a favorite saint in a special way.
1.) Draw and color a PORTRAIT of the saint of your choice on the handout provided by your teacher. No photocopies please, just a nice hand-drawn picture. Please include your saint’s name and the virtue that you found most admirable in them.
Please return these to your child’s homeroom teacher by Monday, October 22.
2.) On ALL SAINTS DAY, Thursday, November 1, students may come to school dressed as their saint. Costumes should be easy to take off and worn over their uniform. Students may wear their Living Stations of the Cross costumes with an added prop to identify their saint. We will go to Mass dressed like our true heroes!
3.) Please include a labeled bag to put their costume in afterwards.
4.) After Mass we’ll have a SAINTS PARADE on the Plaza where we’ll march and sing!
5.) We would love to welcome parents to this Holy Day of Obligation followed by the Parade of Saints and a viewing of all the Saint Portraits hung throughout the main school building!
