Kevin Barnicle first joined the St. Rita Catholic Community in 2017 as Athletic Director and Physical Education teacher for grades PreK–4. Now entering his ninth year at St. Rita, he returns in a leadership role as Dean of Student Affairs.

Coach Barnicle came to St. Rita from Greenhill School, where he served as Head Boys Lacrosse Coach and Physical Education teacher. During his six-year tenure at Greenhill, he guided the program to 55 victories, including 32 wins in his first four seasons, becoming the program’s all-time winningest coach. In 2014, he led the Hornets to their first-ever Texas High School Lacrosse League District Championship and was named both the 2014 Texas US Lacrosse Coach of the Year and North District Coach of the Year after the team set a single-season record with 10 wins. In 2017, the Hornets earned 16 victories and advanced to the Texas High School Division II State Championship game. Under his leadership, Greenhill developed 10 all-conference players, including a three-time all-conference honoree and a two-time All-State selection. Ten student-athletes earned All-North District recognition, and three received All-State honors.

Prior to Greenhill, Coach Barnicle spent eight seasons at Episcopal School of Dallas, where he built the Eagles into a perennial North Texas lacrosse power. He guided the program to four Texas High School State Championship Final Four appearances, including a state title in 2007, and three additional runner-up finishes. The Eagles also reached the SPC Championship Game four times during his tenure, capturing the title in 2008. Following the 2006 season, he was named Texas North District Coach of the Year. While at Episcopal, he coached 10 All-Americans and helped more than 20 student-athletes continue their careers at the collegiate level.

Coach Barnicle began his coaching career overseas at Charterhouse School in Surrey, England, where he developed both the boys’ and girls’ lacrosse programs. Upon returning to the United States, he coached for three seasons at Hartwick College and his alma mater, Springfield College. During the summer months, he continues to work with youth lacrosse players across the Northeast through camps and select tournaments.

As a player, Coach Barnicle was a four-year starter at Division III powerhouse Springfield College. As a senior, he earned First Team All-Conference honors and was selected to compete in the 1999 Division III North-South All-Star Game in Saratoga Springs, New York.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1999 and a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration in 2003, both from Springfield College.

Coach Barnicle is also a proud St. Rita parent to Reece (8th grade), Brooks (7th grade), and Dylan (2nd grade).
